COVID-19 Update Regarding the Regatta

We wanted to get an update out on the Media Regatta for 2020 now that there is a bit more visibility around health guidance and the lock down. It's been very tough to plan for what might happen by June 11 so we were holding out hope that we might be able to get something together.

However, given current advice from the government and social distancing rules, we will, unfortunately, have to postpone the launch of the regatta. While day sailing is currently permitted, we wouldn't be able to assure social distancing and we would be unable to host our social event following the day.

We will be looking for a new date later in the year and will let you know when we find something that works and will allow for the health and well-being of everyone involved.

Thank you all for your support. We are all saddened by this new but will deliver a fantastic race once it is safe to do so!

Event Overview

The UK Media Regatta brings together those who work in media, advertising, and associated technology companies for a day of sail racing on the Solent, just off the South Coast of the UK. Sailors of all levels of experience are welcome as each boat will be led by a world-class skipper.

After the races, the fleet will head via fast RIBs from Yarmouth to The Hut for drinks, award givings, and dinner. Participants will be able to stay over on Isle of Wight or be returned to the mainland at the end of the night.

Join the Media Regatta in June, 2020. Challenge yourself. Challenge your peers. Register at https://media-regatta.com today.

What to Expect

The UK Media Regatta is designed to give the true experience of taking part in a competitive sailing regatta while also being suitable and enjoyable for all abilities and levels of experience — including none at all! In fact, the majority of the crew will have never sailed before.

But don’t worry, each yacht comes with a highly experienced and qualified skipper as well as mate. They will train and support you so that you get the absolute maximum from the day. Participants will be amazed at the end of the day how much they’ve picked up and learned by working side by side with these pros.

All of our skippers and mates will communicate professionally and socially with participants to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable time.

The Media Regatta will race matched boats to give every team an even chance. In additon to the matched boats will be our RIBs and a Committee Boat complete with Race Officer who will control the course setting and the racing on the day.

Expect a fun, challenging day that will remembered long afterwards. The Regatta will run several short, sharp windward/leeward courses, encouraging close, competitive racing between the teams. We look forward to hearing the retelling of the races over drinks afterward.

FAQ

The Isle of Wight & Solent

Can I enter as an individual? A Company?

While the majority of entrants will be individuals, if you have a group of six people at your organization and would like to block-book a boat just for you, we’re happy to arrange that. Further, if you would like to discuss a branding or sponsorship opportunity along with a full boat, please get in touch with us to discuss options.

How much sailing or racing experience do I need?

Quite simply: None. If this regatta is like many others, most of the participants will have no sailing or racing experience prior to coming aboard. We are working with world-class skippers with thousands of hours of experience skippering racing boats and running crews. You’re in good hands and will learn a lot. That’s not to say to those with some — or even extensive — experience won’t have a fantastic time. Your skipper will love having an extra set of capable hands on board to help run the boat and crew.

Are there any sponsorship opportunities?

We do offer several sponsorships for companies interested. Please get in touch to review your options.

What is the cost and what’s included?

The cost is £499 for the day. We are offering an early-bird discounted price of £399 for anyone registering and paying before April 1, 2020.

Everything is inclusive except for your travel to and from the regatta. This includes:

  • The full day sailing regatta and entrance into all races

  • Wet weather gear, life jackets, harnesses (should they be needed) and all other safety equipment

  • Shuttle from station to dock

  • On board training with your skipper

  • Lunch

  • Drinks

  • Award reception and dinner

  • RIB (motor boat) transport back to mainland

What kind of boats will be racing on?

We’ll be using a comfortable, fast boat such as a Beneteau 37. These boats have a small galley (kitchen) and a toilet on board. You will be able to store your bags inside.

Is this a corporate team building thing?

Not really. The intention of the media regatta is to create a fantastic experience for anyone in media. We spend a lot of time in conference rooms, on panels, in meeting rooms, and down the pub. The Media Regatta will allow you to get to know your peers in an entirely new environment and forge new relationships in an entirely new way.
